After a rainout the previous week, the Spring River senior softballers traveled to Jonesboro on Aug. 28.
Due to injuries, vacations, and so forth, the Jonesboro and Trumann teams were short of players.
In the Jonesboro game (they borrowed a Spring River player) Spring River put together a good offensive effort.
Pat LaFaye hit two triples and Larry Thompson also hit a three-bagger.
Joe Bonds slammed a homer. Not to be out-done, Hillary Mangrum smashed a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs.
He probably could have stretched it into a triple, but ran out of steam at second base.
Pat LaFaye played his usual good defense and Spring River won 24-12.
In the Trumann game (they borrowed some Jonesboro players) the score was close all the way.
Larry Thompson hit a two run homer and a triple, Davie Keylor and "Slim Jim" each had a triple. The "Tuna" continued his good hitting. Tony Clementi made a good catch in short left, then fired to first base to get a double play. The "Scoop" was involved in a couple of double plays. Spring River outlasted Trumann 15-10. Herb Hess pitched both games.
