Marilyn June Woods, 71, of Melbourne, Ark., died Aug. 30, 2008, at her home. She was born Sept. 13, 1936, the daughter of Isaac Herndon and Audie Lee Foster Frizzell in Zion, Ark.
She worked for the Bank of Melbourne when it was located behind the courthouse square. She also spent several years as a teacher's aide with the Melbourne School District.
Charles and June started their family in Kansas City, Kan., where they were standing members of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. They moved back to Melbourne in 1969, were they joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church pianist. Just recently, they joined the Maxville Missionary Baptist Church in Cave City. June graduated from Melbourne High School in 1953-54.
Survivors include: her husband of 51 years, Charles Woods Sr. of the home; one son, Charles Woods Jr. (Chuck) and his wife Nancy of Millington, Tenn.; one daughter, Gwen Woods Dixon of Melbourne; five grandchildren Emily Dixon, Hilary Dixon, Liam Dixon, Alex Woods and Austin Woods; one sister, Carole Worthington of Oxford, Miss.; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; and one granddaughter, Meredith Lauren Dixon.
Funeral services were held Sept. 2 at the Roller Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Bro. Boyce Johnson and Bro. Rickey Burke officiating. Interment followed in the Antioch Cemetery near Zion.
Pallbearers were Travis Woods, Gayle Woods, Rayburn Finley, Mike Box, Pat Davidson and James O. Miller.
