OREGON COUNTY -- Progress can be seen on Route 63 between Thayer and West Plains where crews have been busy for a couple of months widening and repaving. Paving, which began south of the Business 63 intersection in West Plains Aug. 5, is approaching the city limits of Koshkonong.
According to MoDOT Senior Construction Inspector Rodney Wiles, once crews reach Koshkonong they will back up to West Plains and pave shoulders. "The travel lanes were paved first to provide a good driving surface," he said. "I expect toward the end of the week of Sept. 1, the crew will move back to West Plains so they can begin paving the shoulders."
Wiles said the road is well marked with temporary centerline tabs and motorists should drive carefully along this section of Route 63, especially in areas where work crews are paving the shoulders.
Grading work continues south of Koshkonong and Wiles said with the progress that is being made, he estimates asphalt widening will begin there by mid-September. "We have a lot to accomplish between now and our November completion date but we are on target," he said.
