County receives technology grant

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

The Oregon County Library District has been awarded a LSTA Mini Technology Grant. The project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Service under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the office of the Secretary of State.

The $18,627 grant and 25 percent local library district funds will provide funding to purchase 25 new computer workstations to be placed in two of the local libraries. The Alton Library has received 13 and Thayer Library will have 12 placed in their computer lab. The public computer lab at Alton has been updated. Thayer updates are scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 8.

This grant is the first phase of planned upgrades by the library district. A second grant will be submitted in February 2009, to upgrade technology equipment at the remaining library sites in Oregon County. This will include Thomasville, Myrtle and Koshkonong libraries.

Library employees, Pam Baker, Janice Richardson and Judy Wright, worked on and submitted the grant on behalf of the library district.
