Spring River wins pair

Thursday, September 25, 2008

After another rain-out the previous week, the Jonesboro and Trumann softball teams visited the Spring River senior softballers in Ash Flat on Sept. 11.

In the Jonesboro game, the offense was a bit sluggish.

Dave Keylor smashed a three-run homer and made a couple of great catches in the outfield, one an over-the-shoulder snag.

Rick Comer, "Tuna" Morgan and Jim Drozd were involved in a few double plays, helping Spring River to a 14-6 victory.

In the Trumann game, Spring River got off to a good start and played well defensively, keeping Trumann from catching up.

Joe Bonds hit a homer.

Hillary Mangrum racked up a clutch single.

Rick Comer made a great leaping catch at short, then fired to first to get a double play. Joe Bonds made a shoe-top catch in center and Tony Clementi made a running catch in short right. Charles Morgan made a good catch at second that started a double play. He then stopped a hot shot to get the final out of the game.

Spring River holds off Trumann for a 16-9 win. Herb Hess pitched both games.

The season comes to a end when October makes its appearance.
