Norman Fred Howell

Norman Fred Howell was born the son of Boyd and Irene Brahear Howell on Oct. 15, 1924, in Hutton Valley, Mo., and died Sept. 17, at his home in Koshkonong, Mo., at the age of 83.

He was united in marriage June 15, 1944, at Salem, Ark., to Zella Marie Brazeal. Howell enjoyed horses and will be remembered for his ability and talent to train horses. On July 22, 2006, Norman was recognized for over 50 years of Horse Pulling and Horsemanship and was awarded the Horse Pullers Hall of Fame plaque.

Howell was a logger and timber worker in the area most of his life. He was a Christian and a member of Clifton Free Will Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his wife, Marie of the home in Koshkonong; two sons, Jim Howell and wife, Virginia of Koshkonong, and Jack Howell and wife, Amy of Koshkonong; five daughters, Betty Childers and husband, Lewis of Thayer, Mo.; Wilma Boze and husband, Jim of Koshkonong; Delsie Rideout and husband, Roy of Koshkonong; Jeannie Kester and husband, Dale of Branson, Mo., and Shirley Smith and husband, John of Koshkonong; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were Sept. 20 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Charles Barnett officiating. Burial was in the Koshkonong Cemetery at Koshkonong, Mo., with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
