A new club is being started in the area -- the South East Missouri Garden Tractors Pullers club.
It is being organized by Chuck Swope of Thayer and the club will have its first garden tractor pull Sept. 27 at the Mo.-Ark. track located near the Thayer/Mammoth Spring Rodeo Arena.
Swope said the weigh-in will begin at 5 p.m., with the actual pull starting at 7 p.m.
"There will be a membership fee of $20 a year for anyone wanting to join the club and run for a season trophy. This is a real family oriented club where entire families can participate," Swope said.
He said the pull on Saturday will be open to garden tractors with rubber tires. No four-wheel drives will be permitted. No mower decks will be allowed and no duel tires permitted.
"A garden tractor class is defined as a tractor having an electric motor, or one or two cylinder water or air cooled, four-cycle engine. No motorcycle motors will be allowed," Swope said.
He said at the pull a mechanical sled with different weights for different classes will be pulled behind the tractors. "Each driver will pay a $8 hook fee," Swope said.
