Chamber sets 5K race in Calico Rock

Friday, October 3, 2008

The Calico Rock Chamber of Commerce is planning a 5K race in conjunction with the Calico Creek Autumnfest on Oct. 11.

Start time is 9 a.m.

The course will start in Rand Park, (at the junction of Highway 5 and Highway 56) then travel down to Calico Rock Creek, go through the heart of historic downtown Calico Rock (Peppersauce Alley), under the Railroad tracks, past Jenkins Boat Dock and up the beautiful White River walk.

The return route will be the same.

This race is unique in that there are a number of different categories for cash prizes.

The overall male winner and the overall female winner will each receive $50.

Then there are 10 age groups (five-year increments) where the first place winners receive $10 and the second place winners $5.

Water will be provided at the turnaround point and also at the finish.

Snacks will also be provided for all race participants.

All racers receive both a long-sleeved T-shirt and goody bag.

Walking participants are also welcome.

The entry fee is $20, or $10 for students in the 12th grade and under.

While same day registration is available, you can register at the Chamber of Commerce office, and early registration guarantees correct T-shirt size.

Check in time is 8:15 a.m. For more information, contact Tamra Bevill at tbevill@ozarka.edu.
