Blevins medalist, Melbourne second at regional

Salem's J.W. Blevins took top individual honors at the Class 2A Region 2 Golf Tournament Sept. 23 at Cooper's Hawk in Melbourne.

Blevins carded a 3-over 75 to earn medalist honors in the match.

Walnut Ridge edged Melbourne by three strokes to come in first place overall.

The Bobcats shot a 23-over 239, while the Bearkatz finished with 236.

Salem came in third with a 251.

All three teams earned tickets to the Class 2A State Tournament.

Ridgefield Christian came in fourth with a 254, followed by East Poinsett County's 259, Izard County's 261, Greers Ferry-Westside's 268, Hillcrest's 301, Concord's 313 and Cedar Ridge's 382.

Sam Cooper shot a low score of 77 for Melbourne, followed by Lee Lewis with an 81, Spencer Caraway with an 84 and Keifer Smith with a 94.

Preston Harmon earned an invite to the state tourney by carding a team-low 80 for Izard County.

Caleb Cowan finished with an 87 for the Cougars, while Uriah Mead shot a 94 and Jake Dockins ended the match with a 106.
