Cherokee Village Fire Department responded to a house fire on 1 Kawa Drive, Sept. 28 around 11:13 p.m. According to the report, three on-duty firemen responded and five off-duty firemen responded.
When the fire department arrived, they found a lot of smoke coming from the home. The report said that when the firemen entered the house, they found no fire in the living areas of the house. After further investigation they found the fire in the basement and worked quickly to extinguish the flames.
"The fire was of a suspicious nature because we could not find any natural or accidental causes for the fire," Cherokee Village Fire Chief Mike Taylor said. "There was no power to the house and no storms, so we don't know where it started." Taylor said that while the home was occupied, the utilities had been turned off.
Cherokee Village Chief of Police Scott Goodwin said the home was occupied by renters and the fire was still under investigation.
