Ballfield nears completion

Thursday, October 9, 2008

MAMMOTH SPRING -- By next spring, the Mammoth Spring Little League will have a nice baseball field thanks to the help of many donations and volunteer work.

The ballfield is located just south of the city on Highway 9. It will have a concession stand and storage building with one ballfield.

"Because of the great response from the community, the ballfield project is moving along fairly quickly now. The ballfield should be ready for action by spring of next year," Mammoth Spring Mayor Jean Pace said.

James Martin will be doing the concrete block work at the ballfield and Carl Barton will be doing the floor finishing work at the storage building at the field. Morrison Redi-Mix of Thayer donated the concrete.

The city furnished all the material for the electrical work and Buchanan Plumbing did all the plumbing work free, with the city paying for the materials.

"We had two $5,000 donations that have been greatly appreciated. One from the Mammoth Spring Country Music Association and one with the help of State Rep. Curren Everett that helped us get the $5,000 grant from the White River Solid Waste District," she said.

"The county and city donated two days for leveling the ground, getting it ready for the storage building and concession stand," Pace said.

Other donations toward the construction of the ballfield have come from the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce and the Mammoth Spring VFW Post 7831 Ladies Auxillary.
