The Arkansas Policy Foundation released on Oct. 5 the 2007 college remediation rates for Arkansas high schools. The college remediation rate is the percentage of high school graduates who had to take remediation courses in college. The average remediation rate for Arkansas was 48.1 percent. According to the report, Fulton, Izard and Sharp County school districts did well in their ratings.
Out of 250 school districts in Arkansas, Izard County Consolidated ranked 19th at 31.8 percent. The Salem School District was 28th at 34.2 percent. Cave City ranked 40th at 37.5 percent. Both Melbourne and Bay school districts tied for 80th place at 43.5 percent. Mammoth Spring was 112th at 50 percent. Highland scored 53.1 percent and was 133rd. Norfork tied with Atkins and Rose Bud for 185th place at 60 percent. Viola tied with Bearden and East End at 63.6 percent placing at 203rd. Calico Rock School District ranked 236th at 75 percent.
According to the report, there were no failing districts in the area. The research was performed by the National Office for Research, Measurement and Evaluation Systems (NORMES).
