Alliance providing meals

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

THAYER -- The local Ministerial Alliance has been serving meals for the Thayer Bobcat Football players and coaches this year before home games.

Ministerial Alliance President Abel Perez, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Thayer, said this Friday, Oct. 24 will be the last meal served, because it will be the last home game. The meal will be at the First Assembly of God Church located on Highway 63. The meal will start between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m.

"Other churches that have been involved include the Chapel Hill Baptist Church, the New Life Worship Center and St. Paul's United Methodist Church," Perez said. He said other churches would have been involved but there were only four home games this year.

"We have averaged serving about 90 percent of the team members. This is a way for the local churches to show support to our local team and has been a good impact on the community," he said.

Pezez said the Ministerial Alliance needed to be more community minded. "We don't want people to think we are here just to give money away. We want to be involved in the community," he said.

Perez has been pastor at the Thayer First Assembly of God since 2005.

Another project being sponsored by Thayer and Mammoth Spring churches as well as the Ministerial Alliance is a first ever Community Renewal Celebration.

"This will be an eight night program starting each evening at 7 p.m. in the old elementary gym located at 6th and Walnut Street in Thayer," Perez said.

Speakers for the event are:

* Oct. 22, James Shreves.

* Oct. 23, Jimmy Lemmonds.

* Oct. 26, Ron Richardson.

* Oct. 27, Erman Croney.

* Oct. 28, Wayne Hurst.

* Oct. 29, Richard Robinson.

* Oct. 30, Franklin Brockelman.

* Oct. 31, Jim Denbow.

Perez said child care will be provided.
