Trick or Treat

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Children run door to door frantically saying the famous words, "Trick or Treat," but some parents and many children fail to consider whose door they're knocking on.

Sharp County Sheriff Dale Weaver has provided a list of addresses occupied by level three and level four sex offenders in the county. Even though this information is provided and many will avoid these residences, parents should still use extreme caution and talk with their children about entering the homes of strangers.

The sex offender address list is as follows:

Hardy: 53 Rainbow Trail; 13275 Highway 63 South; 43 Westwood Drive; 17 South Spring Street; 30 Quarry Road.

Cherokee Village: 1 Chitola Drive; 82 White Horse Mountain Road; 13 Akokisa Drive; 18 North Lakeshore Trace; 22 Chinook Lane.

Evening Shade: 2905 Highway 167; 103/254 Highway 167 North.

Ravenden: 637 Browns Creek Road.

Williford: 8 East Cresent Drive; 23 Skyway Avenue; 925 South Summit Road; 137 North Summit Ridge Road; East Walnut.

Highland: 35 Deering Road; 95 Dusty Trail Road.

Cave City:

174 Mockingbird; 582 Shelbyville Road; 29 Ann Drive.

Poughkeepsie: 60 Strawberry River Road.

This information is strictly for the purpose of child safety and is to be used in no way to harass the occupants of these addresses.

"Parents, be sure your child's costume is safe, that their vision is not obstructed and if they are out after dark, they have something reflective on," Sheriff Weaver suggested. "They should also carry flashlights. If the costume has some type of knife, make sure it doesn't have a sharp point or edge."

Sherriff Weaver also said it is a good idea for parents to accompany their children as they trick or treat or have another responsible person take them.

"Parents should instruct their children to never eat anything until you have an opportunity to check it and insist that they obey this rule," Sheriff Weaver said.

Sheriff Weaver also asks drivers to slow down Halloween night and be extra vigilant. "Watch for these little guys and gals," Sheriff Weaver said.
