The Izard County junior high basketball teams opened the 2008 season with a sweep of Flippin Oct. 20 at the Cougars' Den in Brockwell.
The junior Lady Cougars started the evening off by edging past the junior Lady Bobcats 34-28.
Izard County trailed 20-19 after three periods of play, but the junior Lady Cougars outscored Flippin 15-8 in the fourth period to post the win.
Amber Hall led Izard County with 22 points, while Jessica Moore added five and Kaydie Campbell three. Kiana Huihui and Stephanie Shrable finished with two points each for the junior Lady Cougars.
In boys' play, the junior Cougars whipped Flippin 54-29.
Izard County led 15-5 after the first period and opened up a big gap by outscoring the junior Bobcats 22-6 in the third period.
Trenton Hatman paced the junior Cougars with 14 points and five rebounds. Jordan Everett added 11 points, with Josh Ball logging 10. Jake Dockins finished the game with six, Kyle King had four and Preston Harmon three. Jesse Ball, Uriah Mead and Taylor Cowan tallied two points apiece.
