ICC installs new warning system

Thursday, October 30, 2008

The Izard County Consolidated School District has upped its technology in the communication field.

GroupCast Messaging systems, an automated messaging industry based in St. Louis, has partnered with ICC to implement GroupCast's SchoolReach system for the school district.

This system will have many uses. A school official, such as a principal or teacher, can send a mass announcement to parents of every student at ICC or a select few. Announcements can vary from announcing a school basketball game to alerting parents of an early school closing or any type of emergency.

The system records the message and then sends it out to the parents. It then creates a list for the school official to see which parents picked up and listened to the message or if the message was left on an answering machine.

"SchoolReach allows a school administrator to more effectively and efficiently contact parents with important announcements," Paul Langhorst, GroupCast vice president of operations said. "Schools struggle with day-of or night-before notices to parents; SchoolReach serves this need perfectly and requires no hardware, software or phone lines for use. We are very pleased that Izard County School District recognizes the need for such a communication tool and has selected GroupCast as its partner."

ICC is not the only school in the area with the system. The Salem School District implemented the same messaging system near the beginning of the school year.
