The Viola junior Lady Longhorns opened play in the annual Bergman Junior Invitational Tournament with a tight 30-26 win over Norfork Oct. 27.
The game was locked at 14-all at the half, but Viola used an 8-2 run in the third to pull in front 22-16.
Michaela Thompson led the junior Lady Horns with a game-high 19 points in the game.
Leslie Shrable added eight points, while Kierstin Moore had three points.
The junior Longhorns were not as fortunate, falling to the Norfork junior Panthers 37-23 in the tourney Oct. 27.
Norfork led 11-2 after the first period and 16-8 at intermission. The junior Panthers maintained their lead at 29-14 after three periods of play.
The junior Lady Longhorns' run in the tourney came to a close with a 35-22 loss to the host team from Bergman Oct. 30.
The game was close in the fourth period, with Viola trailing by just three points with a little over two minutes left, before the junior Lady Panthers got busy.
Bergman finished the game on a 12-2 run to emerge with the win.
Thompson paced Viola with 10 points.
