Izard County Sheriff's Report

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Shawn W. Patterson, 37, of Batesville, was arrested Oct. 30 when Izard County Police responded to a call from the First National Bank of Izard County in Melbourne. Police determined that Patterson was at the bank to discuss financial arrangements on some equipment and when an employee with whom he was visiting left his office to make a phone call, Patterson locked the door of the office and barricaded it with a chair. Patterson also pulled down the window blinds and refused to come out. Officers forcibly entered the office and removed Patterson. He was arrested for criminal trespass and transported to the Izard County Detention Facility. Patterson was later released on bond on the condition that he will not contact any of the bank's employees.

An investigation into several incidents of paint balling vehicles, buildings and signs in the Melbourne area, led to the Oct. 31 arrested of two local males.

During the investigation, it was determined that the males had also stolen display holiday pumpkins from several local homes. Charged with nine counts of theft and criminal mischief were Brain Matthew Selby, 18, and James Franklin "Bubba" Johnson, 18. Sheriff Lawrence said the two were released and given an appearance date in Izard County District Court.

Chad Ray Hobson, 30, was arrested Oct. 31 on the charges of domestic battery in the 3rd degree, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental operations. Sheriff Lawrence said the charges stem from an incident involving a female co-inhabitant. Hobson remains in the Izard County Detention Facility pending a bond hearing. Sheriff Lawrence also said that a complaint against Hobson, involving an alleged criminal sexual act, has been turned over to the Arkansas State Police.

Calvin Keith Cooper, 41, of Melbourne, was arrested Nov. 1 for 3rd degree battery, public intoxication, fleeing and resisting arrest. The 3rd degree battery charge is being reviewed for possible upgrade to a felony. Late Nov. 1, an Izard County deputy, on a routine patrol, saw three vehicles parked in the right-of-way areas of Larkin Road. One of the vehicle's trunk was open and the deputy stopped to investigate. The deputy found Cooper under the influence of alcohol and when he was asked to submit to a portable breath test, Cooper pushed the deputy and ran across the road into the woods where he was subdued. Cooper struck the deputy in the face while he was on the ground. Cooper was transported to the Izard County Detention Facility where he was released the following morning.
