DeWayne Nickless was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Alton, Mo., the son of the late Lewis Nickless and Clara Mable Shouse Nickless. He died Oct. 23, 2008, at his home in Mountain Grove, Mo., at the age of 76.
He was united in marriage Jan. 16, 1951, to Mary Dale.
He was employed by Swift and Company, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Cattleman's Assciation and also a member of the Elks Lodge in West Plains, Mo.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Nickless of the home in Mountain Grove; three children, Kenny Nickless and wife, Debra of Sunrise Beach, Mo., Debra Saldi and husband, Tony of Omaha, Neb., and Scott Nickless of Lincoln, Neb.; five grandchildren, Heidi Buttolph and husband, Ward, Dustin Nickless, Michael Saldi, Nick Saldi and wife, Katie and James Saldi and fiancee Sarah Skoog; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Combs and husband, Bill of Trinidad, Texas; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lewis and Mable; three brothers, Robert Nickless, Keith Mauldin and Gene Mauldin.
Funeral services were held Oct. 27 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Rev. Jason Roberts officiating. Burial followed ini the Hickory Grove Cemetery, at Alton, with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
