Thursday, November 6, 2008

THAYER -- Thayer American Legion Post 344 will be holding a dedication ceremony for the new Veterans Memorial, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. The memorial is at the corner of Front and Walnut Street.

According to American Legion Post member Doyle Fink, several dignitaries including Thayer Mayor Merle Williams, State Rep. Mike Dethrow, Christy Ferrel a representative from Sen. Claire McCaskill's office and State Rep. Chuck Purgason have been invited and agreed to attend the dedication.

The American Legion will present the honor guard, a 21 Gun Salute and play "Taps" at the dedication.

"The Veterans Memorial is a tribute to the men and women from the Thayer area who have served our nation through their military service. In times of war and times of peace, throughout the history of our nation, and in every branch of service, our friends, neighbors and our loved ones have answered the call. That is why we are honoring theses heroes," Fink said.
