Bank reports internal theft

Thursday, November 13, 2008

An internal audit on Jan. 30, revealed that $10,000 was missing from the First Simmons Bank in Mammoth Spring.

Lisa J. Collins, 34, of Mammoth Spring, was interviewed by the Arkansas State Police about the missing money on Oct. 30. During the interview, Collins admitted to taking the money from her teller drawer while she was employed at the bank. She said she stole money from April to December of 2007.

According to the facts constituting reasonable cause, Collins said she wasn't able to come up with the money to make up the difference, so she took $10,000 from the safe in the vault. She then put the money in her teller drawer to balance out the drawer totals so no one would notice money was missing from her drawer.

Collins is charged with theft of property, which is a Class B felony because she stole more than $2,500.
