It was a happy homecoming for Viola at the Longhorn Corral Nov. 14, as the home teams swept a pair of senior-high contests from Izard County.
In girls' action, the Lady Horns remained perfect on the season with a 53-21 win over the Lady Cougars.
Viola (7-0) jumped in front 13-2 and never slowed down in the game.
Leslie Barker tossed in 13 to pace the Lady Longhorns, while Taylor Griggs and Elisabeth Collins had 10 points apiece.
Dedra Johnston and Alex Duncan tallied seven points each, while Sarah Long and Kristen Montgomery finished with one point each.
Rachel Harmon led Izard County with seven points, while Trisha Arnold finished with six.
Sarah Taylor and Ali Roberts had three points each, with Kaylee Cooper adding one.
In boys' action, Dylan Holstine started off red hot, helping Viola (5-2) to a 49-42 win over the Cougars (0-6).
Holstine (14 points) tossed in the Horns' first 12 points of the game, on four treys, to help push Viola in front 16-10 after one.
The Longhorns led 28-20 at the half.
The Cougars fought back and got within 43-35 late in the game, but the home team managed to hold off Izard County down the stretch.
Marlin Coggins led Viola with 15 points. Jacob Payne added five, while Blake Baumunk had four.
Jackson Rains, Jesse Shrable and Jordan Cotter tallied three points apiece. Levi Flemming had two points.
Gage Wolford logged 15 points to pace Izard County, with Ethan Porter hitting for 12. Gerrick Smith had five and Ryan Walker four.
Alex Gale, Jed Yarnell and Caleb Cowan ended the game with two points apiece.
Viola opened the week with a sweep of Highland Nov. 11.
The Lady Horns got a pair of free throws from Griggs with two ticks left on the clock to push past the Lady Rebels 43-42.
Viola trailed 33-28 after three, but outscored Highland 15-9 in the fourth period to emerge with the tight win.
Hutson led Viola with 12 points, while Collins and Barker had nine points each.
On the boys' side of things, the Longhorns topped the Rebels 43-39.
Holstine logged 11 points for Viola, with Rains adding 10 and Coggins nine.
