Ernest Ray Worthen, 70, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Richard Dyne and Velma (Gallagher) Worthen, was born on Dec. 17, 1937, in Ogilby, Calif. He died Nov. 11, 2008, at Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home, Ark.
He was united in marriage to Emma Lea Elliott on Feb. 14, 1962, in York, Neb. He spent his working years as a building contractor of homes and a custodian for Salem School System.
He served his country in the United States Navy and he was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by: his wife, Emma Lea Worthen of Salem; a son, Darren Worthen and wife Debbie of Early, Texas; daughter, Debra Worthen of Spring- field, Mo.; brother, Dale Worthen and wife, Evelyn of Mansfield, Ark.; six grandchildren, Phillip, Derek, Bobby, Denise, Jessie and Dustin; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother; and two sisters.
A memorial service was held Nov. 14 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem. Arrange- ments were under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
