Toy drive kicks off

Thursday, November 20, 2008

AREA -- The 2008 Toys for Tots Drive is now underway. The drive is sponsored annually by the VFW Post and Ladies Auxillary of Mammoth Spring.

Boxes will be placed throughout the stateline area for anyone wanting to donate a toy to the drive.

According to VFW Auxiliary President Dorothy Parks, "The Thayer FBLA will be collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program and will donate the toys they have collected to the project to help children in the area."

Any new or good used toy can be left at Cotham's Auction Barn, Mammoth Spring City Hall and a few other places yet to be determined.

All toys collected in the stateline area will be distributed with the help of Santa at a Christmas party at the VFW in Mammoth Spring.

"The party will be closed except for invited families that will be receiving the toys and the Toys for Tots committee. Anyone who would like to donate a toy to the program, or anyone that might know a family who might need help can call the VFW Commander Bob Turner at 870-625-7628 or myself at 870-625-7667 after 6 p.m.," Parks said.

"The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary are very grateful for all the help received from area businesses in the community. We encourage the area to help support this program by supporting the businesses in the stateline area. Many children have received Christmas toys in the past due to the VFW Toys for Tots program," she said.
