Ralph Eugene (Gene) Peden, 83, son of the late Harry and Minerva Peden, was born March 20, 1925, in Canton, Ohio. He died Nov. 15, 2008, at Horseshoe Bend, Ark.
Gene was united in marriage to Helen Elizabeth Swonger on March 26, 1946, at Magnolia, Ohio.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He served in the Scouts and Raiders Unit in the European Theater of War and in SACO Unit in the Pacific Theater of War. After the war, for the rest of his life, Gene repaired, maintained and sometimes designed and fabricated a wide array of machines, vehicles and habitations. Gene was a commissioned Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by: his wife, Helen Peden of Horseshoe Bend; daughter, Patricia Lufkin of Horseshoe Bend; three sons, Paul D. Peden and wife Barbara of Fort Myers, Fla., Thomas E. Peden of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Charles R. Peden and wife Kathleen of Roswell, Ga.; brother, Paul R. Peden and wife Betty; grandchildren, Michelle Cisco, Eric Keifer, Craig Peden, Mike Keifer, Justin Peden, Bryan Peden, Damon Peden, Kevan Peden and Alexander Peden; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Nov. 22 at Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend, with Bro. Bob Norton officiating.
