Doris Westhead Emery, 92, of Tulsa, Okla., daughter of the late Ben and Maggie Westhead, was born in Coppull, Lancashire, England on Aug. 6, 1916. She died Nov. 22, 2008, at the Ambassador Manor Nursing Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Doris met and married Russel Emery when he was stationed at Whitehall, England during World War II and moved to America in 1946. She was a homemaker.
As a young girl of 13, Doris went to work in a weaving factory. When the war started the company began making parachutes for the soldiers.
She is survived by: her sons, Dennis Emery and wife Susie and Brian Emery and wife Cheryl all of Tulsa, Okla.; her daughter, Myra Hodgson and husband Alan of Addlington, England; her sisters, Margaret "Maggie" Lea of Chorley, Lancashire, England and Evelyn Fairhurst of Coppull, Lancashire, England; her brother Ben Westhead of Charnock Richards, Lancashire, England; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
A graveside service was held Nov. 26 at the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Ark.
