"Oh, you better not shout, you better not cry. You better not pout, I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town."
Santa Claus is coming to Salem all the way from the North Pole for the Salem Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade on Dec. 1. All are invited to visit the jolly old man, but the good little boys and girls will have to wait until the end of the parade to sit and talk with Santa about what they want for Christmas, according to Sandra McFarren, the parade coordinator.
McFarren said floats can enter the parade as they are lining up, but she said she would prefer to have advanced notice. Honorable mention for the float contest is $25, third prize is $75, second is $100 and first is $125.
The line up for the parade starts at 6 p.m. in the American Polishing parking lot on Highway 395 North, with the parade starting at 6:30 p.m.
The square should be well decorated in all its Christmas glory. McFarren said there have been many businesses on the square that are interested in decorating for a Christmas decorating contest on the square. McFarren said the prize is $25.
First National Banking Company of Salem will be serving hot chocolate and coffee, and the Bank of Salem will provide cookies. Relay for Life teams will be selling food on the square as well.
