Annual Christmas parades get underway

AREA -- Christmas activities at Koshkonong will start Dec. 13 with the crowning of the Koshkonong School Christmas Royalty at 9 a.m. in the high school gym.

Parade line-up will also be at 9 a.m. at the high school. The theme for this year's parade will be "A Country Christmas." The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. The grand marshal for the parade has yet to be announced.

There will be five different categories with a $25 first place prize in each category. The categories are: horses, wagons, bands, floats and ATVs.

The Mammoth Spring Christmas Parade will also be Dec. 13. The parade line-up will be at 1 p.m. at the Mammoth Spring City Park with the parade starting at 2 p.m. and going down Main Street.

Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce President Steve Russell said this year's parade will recognize the importance of education and recently retired Mammoth Spring High School Librarian Jo Kay Smith will be the parade grand marshal. The theme for this year's parade is "Have An A+ Christmas."

Awards of $150, $100 and $50 will be presented for the best floats and the best decorated horses and cars.

Pre-registration is not required and those who would like to be a part of the parade should be at the park at 1 p.m.
