Izard County falls to Norfork

The Izard County Lady Cougars trailed by just two points after three periods of play, but the Norfork Lady Panthers pulled away in the final frame to win 49-39 Dec. 2 at the Cougars' Den in Brockwell.

Holding a 33-31 lead heading into the fourth, Norfork outscored the Lady Cougars 16-8 down the stretch to win by 10 points.

Sarah Taylor paced Izard County with 15 points, while Trisha Arnold added 10. Kaylee Cooper scored eight, with Kristen Doty logging four and Rachel Harmon two.

In boys' action, Norfork turned a 23-12 halftime advantage into a 54-44 victory over the Cougars in the nightcap.

Ethan Porter paced Izard County with 14 points, while Gerrick Smith followed with 12.

Ryan Walker logged six, David Peck had five and Caleb Cowan four. Gage Wolford finished with three points for Izard County.

The Bay Yellowjackets flew into the Cougars' Den Dec. 5 and came away with a 43-27 win over the homestanding Cougars in non-conference hoops action.

Izard County trailed 27-13 at the half and 35-21 after three. Walker led the Cougs with eight points, while Smith added six points and nine boards.

The junior Cougars started the evening with a 36-27 win over the junior Yellowjackets.

Josh Ball tossed in 18 points and grabbed seven boards, with Kyle King adding 10 points and seven rebounds.
