Cavewomen fall in semis

The Cave City Cavewomen hung tough, but fell to the top-seeded Bald Knob Lady Bulldogs 57-53 in the semifinal round of the Lyon College High School Invitational Tournament Dec. 12 at Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville.

The Lady Bulldogs shook off the scare they got from Cave City and topped Southside the following night to earn the tournament championship.

The Cavewomen advanced to the semis with a 56-26 win over Melbourne Dec. 10.

Cave City opened the game on an 11-0 tear and never stopped to look back.

All-Tournament team members Amelia Bray (18 points) and Cheyenne Childers (17 points, seven rebounds) paced Cave City. Brooklyn Brinkley added seven points, while Jessica Hall had five and Megan Graddy four. Katie Stout finished with three and Rachel McKenzie logged two points.

The Cavewomen opened the tournament with a 64-27 blowout of Buffalo Island Central Dec. 9.

Childers posted a 15-point, 10-rebound, double-double for Cave City. Bray followed with 10 points, seven assists and seven steals.

Bionca Cook tallied seven points and Graddy ended the game with six. McKenzie hit for five points.
