Franklin D. Carter, 75, of Sainte Genevieve, Mo., was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Viola, Ark., the son of John Carter and Macy Batterton Carter. He died Nov. 27, 2008, at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Couer, Mo.
He was married to Janet F. Moss of St. Genevieve, Mo. May 29, 1960.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 150; served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran; a member of County Teachers Association, Missouri State Teachers Association, American Federation of Teachers, retired from Ste. Genevieve School District and taught in Ste. Genevieve County from 1964, until 1992, when he was the basketball coach in West Plains, Mo. Several of their teams qualified to go to state.
Survivors include: his wife, Janet F. (Moss) Carter; a son, Mark A. Carter and Heather, of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Dallas and Logan Carter; and a sister, Faye Hunter of West Plains, Mo.
He was preceded in death by: his father, John Carter; his mother, Macy Batterton Carter, brothers Ewell Carter, John Carter Jr., Austin Carter and Haskel Carter; and three sisters, Ruby Teel, Jean Harrell and Lurene Bradbury.
Funeral services were held at the graveside at Crestlawn Cemetery Dec. 1 with Everett Easley officiating. Burial followed at the cemetery in Ste. Genevieve, Mo. with full military honors by VFW Post 2210.
