It took an extra period, but the Viola Longhorns became the first team to knock off Norfork in 1A-2 North Conference play with a 44-40 victory Dec. 9 at the Longhorn Corral.
The contest was knotted at 40-all after four periods of play, and in the OT stanza, Viola outscored the Panthers 4-0 to earn the win and pin a loss on the first-place squad from Norfork.
Blake Baumunk led the way for the Horns with 16 points, while Dylan Holstine added eight and Jackson Rains had six. Jordan Cotter and Jesse Shrable finished with five points apiece, while Marlin Coggins and Matt Pinner netted two points each.
In girls' action, the Lady Longhorns dispatched Norfork by a count of 42-22 to start the evening.
The Lady Horns led 29-19 after three and then ended the game on a 10-zip run to finish things off.
Elisabeth Collins paced Viola (11-3, 3-1) with 14 points, while Kristen Montgomery logged seven and Leslie Barker posted six. Taylor Griggs and Chasidy Hutson finished with four points each and Heather Simmons had three. Alex Duncan and Dedra Johnston scored two points each.
In junior boys' play, Viola topped Norfork 36-31.
Dolan Johnston tallied 16 points for Viola, with Austin Gardner adding 13.
