Although they were playing their fourth game in four nights, the Mammoth Spring Bears still had enough gas in the tank to engage in a shootout with the Salem Greyhounds Dec. 12.
The Bears managed to survive a big night from Salem's sharp-shooting Shane Smith and a furious late push from the Hounds, to emerge with a hard-fought 82-80 victory.
Mammoth Spring made 39 of 49 charity tosses in the game, including 16 of 18 in the critical fourth period.
Shane Smith scorched the nets for a game-high 35 points for Salem, while J.W. Blevins posted 16.
Seth Godwin had a big night for the Bears, unloading for 27 points.
Trevor Vincent followed close with 25 for Mammoth Spring, with Wes Davis adding a 14-point, 10-rebound, double-double.
The Bears led 19-13 after one, 37-31 at the break and 56-43 after three.
The Bears knocked off the visiting Twin Rivers Panthers 58-28 Dec. 9, behind a 21-point night from Godwin. Godwin also dished out eight assists for Mammoth Spring.
The Bears led 9-6 after the first period and 24-13 at the half.
Vincent finished with 12 points and eight assists for the Bears, with Davis posting 11 points.
Caleb Brown had eight boards, three assists and three steals.
