George Thadneal York, 80, of Sturkie, Ark., son of the late George York and Belle Taylor York was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Izard County, Ark. He died Dec. 17, 2008, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark.
He was united in marriage to Lele Faye Zeigler on Dec. 8, 1951, in Morriston, Ark. To this union four children were born. He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a self-employed carpenter and for many years he and his wife owned and operated the Sturkie Store. He was a member of the Sturkie Church of Christ.
Survivors include his children, Kimmie George York of Sturkie, Stanley Ray York of Sturkie, Teddy Cal York and wife Darla of Salem, and Joseph Lee York and wife Dawnisa of Sturkie; grandchildren, Kimberly Tyler, Trapper York, Casey York, Layton York, Carson York, Shelby York, Tia York, Jimmy York McSpadden and Amber Javorsky; six great grandchildren; sisters, Vernitha Dover of Salem and Loma Mae Williams of Franklin; a brother, Euion York of Morriston; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; a sister, Deletta Kersey; and his father and mother.
Funeral services were Dec. 20 at the Cox-Blevins Chapel with burial following in the Morriston Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
