Dear Santa,

Dear Santa,

My staff has been good (kinda) this year. They've all worked hard to meet their deadlines and to complete the impossible stories that keep our readers informed. Please bring a special gift to each of them.

For Terry ... Please bring him an extra set of batteries and a bright flashlight in case he has to dig through an F4 tornado again. If you could, please bring him a pair of long pants or knee socks that would help the rest of us to feel warmer.

For Jan ... Please bring her a spell checker that knows the difference between trimmer and tremor.

For Emily ... Please bring her another tape recorder with headphones so she can double-check the mayor's quotes.

For Amanda ... Please bring her an updated Rol-e-dex with the names of all the fire chiefs in Sharp County.

For Steven ... Please bring him a lot of laughter in his Looney house and rides to all the Bobcat games.

For Jessica ... Please bring her a great working relationship with the highway patrol and the sheriff's office and bring her at least one "Get Out of Jail Free" card.

For my boss, Janie ... Please bring her a sense of humor and a lot of patience, especially when I start shouting, "FOIA."

As for me, I'd like to have more good e-mails than bad this year and no more than one staff member a week to quit, get sick or pregnant. I would also like Jessica to have a healthy baby boy and then come back to work ASAP.

I will try to leave milk and cookies out for you this year, but since I'm no longer on Jennie Craig, the cookies don't last long at my house.

Merry Christmas!
