Jimmy Hooper, 29, and his wife Christa Hooper, 23, of Batesville are facing federal charges after police investigations led to their arrest for breaking into several area post offices.
Among the post offices the two are believed to have broken into are Ash Flat, Evening Shade and Glencoe. Postal Inspector Daniel Medrano said the investigation led to the couple through a stolen credit card.
According to Medrano, the two broke open several postal boxes but it is unclear if they were seeking anything particular. In one box the two found a credit card which they used to make purchases at local businesses. Authorities were able to identify the Hoopers through surveillance tapes.
Independence County has been holding the two on probable cause and are filing for a warrant for their arrest. Medrano said Richard Kaufman, a postal inspector, interviewed the couple Dec. 19.
"So far, we can only pin three of the burglaries on the couple," Medrano said. "We feel they were involved in all of them but sometimes it is hard for people to tell on themselves."
According to Medrando they plan on filing federal charges as soon as they get the case together to present to the United States Attorney.
