Gene H. McNeight, 83, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark., Dec. 30, 2008.
He was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Fredonia, N.Y. and attended grade school through high school in Cassadaga, N.Y. In 1944, Gene served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and was stationed at Sheeps Head, N.Y., where he was honorably discharged after a bout with rheumatic fever. On Nov. 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Irene Proper from Dunkirk, N.Y.
Gene graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in education from the State University of New York, Fredonia Campus in 1964. In 1966, Gene and Geraldine moved to Sterling Heights, Mich., and he began working for Ling Tempco Vaught Corporation. Shortly after, he accepted a management position with the Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. Gene was a member of MENSA and a member of The Cherokee Village Players and served on the Cherokee Village AARP board.
He is survived by: his daughter, Colleen Wise and her husband James of Cherokee Village; son, Clark McNeight and his wife Linda of Beverly Hills, Fla.; son, Chuck McNeight and his wife, Debi of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Tim Wise, Valerie Vaclavik, Dan Wise, Rebecca Christensen, Chris McNeight, Scott McNeight and Justin McNeight; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
