After losing their first two meetings of the season with the Calico Rock Lady Pirates, Viola managed to turn the tables and win round number three Jan. 6 at the Longhorn Corral.
With the clock winding toward double zeros in overtime, Taylor Griggs dropped in a shot that found the bottom of the net, giving the Lady Longhorns a 45-44 1A-2 North victory. Griggs paced Viola with 16 points.
The Lady Longhorns got off to a fast start in this one, pulling ahead 23-9.
But Calico Rock kept chipping away and when the half rolled around, the Lady Pirates had cut the gap to 28-16.
Viola held a 31-28 lead after three, but Calico Rock finally caught up with the home team in the final frame to lock the game at 36-all after regulation.
Chasidy Hutson tallied 13 points for the Lady Horns, while Elisabeth Collins added 11.
In boys' action, Viola edged past Calico Rock 39-37 later in the evening.
The Pirates led most of the contest, but the Longhorns outscored Calico Rock 7-4 in the final period to emerge with a two-point victory.
Marlin Coggins paced Viola with 10 points.
Brayden McCurley tossed in a game-high 12 points for Calico Rock, with Jake Pool adding 10.
