Izard County split a pair of junior high games with Calico Rock in 1A-2 North action Jan. 8 at the Cougars' Den in Brockwell.
The junior Cougars topped the junior Pirates 58-27, using a big second half to do so.
Izard County led 10-7 after one and 22-21 at intermission. Then in the second half, the junior Cougars turned the jets on and blasted past Calico Rock by outscoring the junior Pirates 36-6 in the second two periods. Josh Ball led Izard County with 21 points. Trenton Hatman added with 16 and Jordan Everett logged 10 points. Preston Harmon added three and Jake Dockins, Kyle King, Uriah Mead and Alec Tullis all scored two points each.
Remington Lively led Calico Rock with eight points. Mitchel Pool added six, Samuel Mason tallied five and Dylan Hamby, Morgan Lamb, Preston Sherrell and Julius Jarosz all had two apiece.
In the junior girls' game, Calico Rock pushed past Izard County 41-39 in overtime.
Calico Rock jumped in front 15-10 after a quarter and led 17-16 at the half. The Junior Lady Pirates built a 27-22 lead at the end of three, but the Junior Lady Cougars rallied to knot the contest at 32-all at the end of regulation.
Jessica Moore led Izard County with 10 points. Amber Hall and Kaydie Campbell scored nine apiece, Sami Wagner added seven and Stephanie Shrable and Kiana Huihui had two apiece.
