Elaine Margaret Hansen, 80, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died Jan. 7, 2009, at her home after a long illness. She was born in 1928 in Chicago, Ill., the only child of the late Fulmar Hansen and Margit Kristine Nilsen both of Norway.
Miss Hansen returned to Norway in 1939 with her parents and was unable to return to the United States until 1946 due to the Nazi occupation of Norway during World War II. She attended school in Norway and spoke Norwegian fluently.
She moved to California in 1947 and was employed as an accountant for the Allstate Insurance Company in Escondido, Calif., and Shoreline, Wash., until her retirement in 1990. Elaine met Byrl Ruth Hadley Barker in 1955 and they became lifetime friends and companions. In 2006, Miss Hansen relocated to Arkansas where she resided at the Fountain Place Christian Retirement Community.
She is survived by: Penelope Hadley of Williford, Ark., Robert Stephen Barker and Barbara Lang of Canada; and many other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; and her lifetime companion, Byrl Ruth Hadley Barker.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Fountain Place. Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Ark., is in charge of the arrangements.
