Luie Newman Roberts, 71, of Alton, Mo., was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Alton, Mo., and died Jan. 10, 2009, in Springfield, Mo.
Luie grew up in the Riverton community and graduated from Alton High School. He was married to Anna Marie German on June 29, 1956, and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture before retiring on March 1, 2003. He then worked part-time as a meat inspector for the state of Missouri.
He was a Christian and attended Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Alton.
He is survived by: his wife, Anna Marie; two sons, Thomas Newman Roberts and wife Kim of Crivitz, Wisc., and Herbert Mack Roberts and wife Dana of Alton; three grandchildren, Josh Roberts and wife Leslie of Alton, Minnie Roberts of Sarcoxie, Mo., Casey Warren and husband Rodney of Alton; six step-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Lloyd "Tom" Roberts and wife Joyce of Alton; one sister, Mary Ann Lawrence and husband Melvin of New Castle, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Shirley Roberts; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Perry A. Roberts and Ella Casey Roberts; and four brothers, Willard, Phillip, Paul and Alex Roberts.
Services were held Jan. 12 at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton with Bro. Jason Roberts and Bro. Matthew Todd officiating. Burial followed in the Huddleston Cemetery.
