Mazell Morehead Melton, daughter of the late Wes Morehead and Allie Rush Morehead was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Gorby Ark. She died Jan. 7, 2009, in Melbourne, Ark., at the age of 89.
Mazell was united in marriage to Marvin Melton on Feb. 23, 1935, and to this union five children were born. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church at Oxford.
She is survived by: four sons and daughters-in-law, Graden and Louise Melton of Brockwell, Jim and Maedene Melton of Selah, Wash., Gale and Mary Melton of Melbourne and Lowell and Peggy Melton of Brockwell; one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Bob Morris of Melbourne; three brothers, Edla Morehead of Melbourne, Mert Morehead, Moxee, Washington and Haskell Morehead of Melbourne; one sister, Joyce Anderson of Batesville; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grand-children; a host other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; two brothers, Berlin and Herman Morehead; one sister, Christine Hellums; and one infant grandson.
Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Brother Doyne Robertson officiating. Interment followed at Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Ronnie Morris, Danny Melton, Roger Melton, Teddy Blevins, Chirs Melton and Charlie Melton.
Honorary pallbearers were Danny Donovan, Tim "Pete" Smith, Brian Smithart, John Jaynes and Brent Smithson.
