Kenneth Lavern Throckmorton, 78, of Viola, Ark., son of the late William Emory and Mary Elizabeth (Breit) Throckmorton Sr., was born Jan. 23, 1930, in Bernard, Mo. He died Jan. 3, 2009, at Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home, Ark.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Alice Marie Baker on Oct. 11, 1951, at Bowling Green, Mo. He spent his working years in the U. S. Army, from which he retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1969. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He is survived by: his wife, Alice Throckmorton of Viola; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Throckmorton of Kansas City, Kan., and Raymond Fitzgerald Throckmorton and wife Kim of Liberty Hill, Texas; one daughter, Wanda Sue Humphries and husband Donald of Mountain Home; two brothers, Edwin Sippely of Bowling Green, Mo., and William Emory Throckmorton Jr. of Flagstaff, Ariz.; two sisters, Marjorie Grote of Bowling Green, and Juanita Throckmorton of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Phillip, Brian, Terry, Dalton, Danielle, Tracy and Dylan; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and two sons, Michael Eugene Throckmorton and Stephen Darrell Throckmorton.
A graveside service and interment were held Jan. 5, at the Salem Cemetery in Salem, with Bro. John Hodges officiating, under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
Pallbearers were Kelly Newton, Terry Humphries, Lanny McCormick, Dalton Throckmorton, Donald Humphries, Raymond Throckmorton and Kenneth Throckmorton.
Memorials preferred to the Salem VFW Post 9777 in Salem.
