Roderick A. Porter, 98, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., died on Jan. 7, 2009. He was the son of Arthur Amasa and Mary (Rhinesmith) Porter (deceased), husband of the late Kathryn Porter, brother of the late Gladys Porter and the late Hazel Porter Gay, father of sons, Ray of Cary, Ill., and Robert Porter of Lakewood, Ohio, and grandfather of Joel and Glenn Porter.
Rod was formerly the fire chief of Portage, Wisc., Marshfield, Wisc., (1948-1950) and Winnetka, Ill., from which position he retired after 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodges 33 of Ft. Winnebago, Tripoli Shrine and Scottish Rite, a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs Great Lakes Division and the St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Horseshoe Bend, Ark.
A visitation was held at the Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend Jan. 15, under the direction of Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
