The Viola junior Lady Longhorns came up a bit short in the finals of the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagle Junior High Tournament Jan. 17, falling to the host team 34-30.
Hillcrest led 11-10 after one, 17-15 at the half and 26-24 heading into the final frame.
Leslie Shrable and Michaela Thompson tossed in 12 points apiece to pace Viola (12-5).
Andrea Duvall added four points and Courtney Davis had two.
Duvall came up big for the junior Lady Horns in the semi-final round against Walnut Ridge on Jan. 15.
She hit a couple of big free throws that helped Viola ease past the junior Lady Bobcats 41-38 in double-overtime.
Duvall sank one charity toss that knotted the game for the first OT and then another one that sent the contest to its second extra frame.
Viola led 11-4 after one and 19-9 at the half, but Walnut Ridge stormed back in the second half and finally caught up to the junior Lady Longhorns. The match was squared at 30-all after regulation and 34-all after the first overtime period.
Shrable had a big night with 27 points for Viola, while Thompson added 11.
The junior Lady Longhorns pushed past Sloan-Hendrix 36-27 Jan. 12 to open tourney play.
Viola led 11-6 after one and then held on to take a 13-11 advantage to the break. The junior Lady Horns remained on top 23-18 after three periods of play.
Shrable and Thompson paced Viola with 12 points apiece, while Duvall and Kierstin Moore logged five points each.
In the boys' division, Viola fell to the top-seeded Cedar Ridge junior Timberwolves 58-10 on Jan. 12.
