The Melbourne Bearkatz had little trouble in handling Cedar Ridge its first 2-2A Conference loss of the year, as the Katz topped the Timberwolves 74-46 Jan. 13 in Newark.
Melbourne (194, 7-0) jumped in front 16-7 after the first period and didn't slow down.
Lee Lewis led the way with 19 points and six rebounds, while Spencer Caraway had 16 points and 10 boards, for a big double-double. Chase Massey had 15 points, with Dalton Grigg posting 10 points and grabbing five boards. Derek Baird and Sam Cooper tallied four points each, while Abram Qualls and Matt Loggains finished with two points apiece. Chris Conrad and Kody Caraway scored one point each for the Bearkatz.
In girls' action, the Lady Katz (19-4, 6-1) pushed past Cedar Ridge 54-38.
Maggie Caraway paced Melbourne with 21 points, while Maggie Cooper had 14 points. Amanda Treat scored six points, Sara Adams added five and Kaylee Ables four points. Tori Taylor and Emily Carroll posted two points each.
Melbourne ended the week by crushing Midland 77-45 Jan. 16 at the Arena in Melbourne.
Massey tossed in 15 points, with Spencer Caraway adding a 13-point, 11-rebound, double-double. Lewis tallied 13 points and grabbed five boards for the Katz.
In girls' action, the Lady Bearkatz routed the Lady Mustangs by 30 points, 63-33.
