Thursday, January 22, 2009

The Viola Lady Longhorns kept their hopes for a 1A-2 North Conference title alive with a 47-30 drubbing of Norfork Jan. 13 at Panther Pavilion in Norfork.

The first half was tight going, before the Lady Horns stepped on the gas pedal in the third period.

Viola led 12-10 after one and 24-20 at intermission, but the Lady Longhorns overwhelmed Norfork with a 15-5 third period, moving Viola ahead 39-25 after three.

In boys' action, Norfork knocked off Viola 58-47, as the Panthers paid back the Horns for a defeat earlier in the conference season, Norfork's only 1A-2 North blemish.

The Panthers led 14-5 early in the game and then used a 10-0 run to hold a 29-16 lead at the break.

Norfork salted the game away by hitting 11 free throws in the final period of play.
