The Viola Lady Longhorns kept their hopes for a 1A-2 North Conference title alive with a 47-30 drubbing of Norfork Jan. 13 at Panther Pavilion in Norfork.
The first half was tight going, before the Lady Horns stepped on the gas pedal in the third period.
Viola led 12-10 after one and 24-20 at intermission, but the Lady Longhorns overwhelmed Norfork with a 15-5 third period, moving Viola ahead 39-25 after three.
Taylor Griggs led the way for Viola with 15 points, while Elisabeth Collins had 11 and Leslie Barker eight. Chasidy Hutson posted six points, Dedra Johnston three and Alex Duncan two points for the Lady Horns, who remained locked in a tie for first place in the 1A-2 North with Calico Rock.
In boys' action, Norfork knocked off Viola 58-47, as the Panthers paid back the Horns for a defeat earlier in the conference season, Norfork's only 1A-2 North blemish.
The Panthers led 14-5 early in the game and then used a 10-0 run to hold a 29-16 lead at the break.
Norfork salted the game away by hitting 11 free throws in the final period of play.
Marlin Coggins paced Viola with 13 points.
Dylan Holstine added nine points for Viola.
Jackson Rains, Blake Baumunk and Matt Prinner had six points each. Jordan Cotter scored four and Ethan Houghtaling logged two points for the Longhorns.
In junior girls' action, Michaela Thompson scored 10 points to lead Viola past Norfork 33-32 to start the evening.
