Charles Thomas Truitt, 82, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., son of the late Herbert Julius and Ida Ethel (Goins) Truitt, was born April 12, 1926, in Tuckerman, Ark., and died Jan. 17, 2009, at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark.

He was married to Vela Christine Walker July 3, 1947, at Newport, Ark. He worked as a heating and air conditioning contractor. He was a member of the Ash Flat Church of Christ in Ash Flat, Ark.

He served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by: wife, Vela Truitt of Horseshoe Bend; two sons, Don Truitt and wife Judy of Mountain Home and Daniel Truitt of Urbana, Ill.; one brother, J.H. Truitt of Iola, Kan.; one sister, Leola Woodruff of Tuckerman, Ark.; five grandchildren, Kelly Engler and husband Chris, Todd Truitt and wife Kristi, Jessica Truitt, Jamie Truitt and Katie Truitt; two great-grandchildren, Macey and Meier Truitt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; five brothers; four sisters; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held Jan. 24, at 11a.m., at the Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend with Tom Douglas officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.

Memorials preferred to the Crownpoint Nursing and Rehab Center in Horseshoe Bend, Ark.
