The Thayer Lady Bobcats came out of the gates fast and strong Jan. 12, and when the evening ended, had routed the Willow Springs Lady Bears 60-30 in South Central Association action.
Thayer's full-court press was almost too much for the Lady Bears from the game's outset.
Kaley Hebert and Micah Stevens double-teamed Willow Springs at the front of the trapping defense, creating steals and turning them into layups for Thayer.
Stevens scorched the nets for 18 points in the first half and finished the night with a game-high 27, hitting four treys from different locations on the floor.
Hebert followed with 15 points. Kristen Earls battled the much larger (especially weight-wise) Willow Springs post players, grabbing some timely defensive rebounds and adding a couple of putbacks on the other end of the floor.
Freshman Lauren Hargus kicked in some good floor time off the bench and the Lady Bobcats held a commanding 33-14 lead at intermission.
Thayer added 15 points in the third period for a 48-21 spread after three, en route to the 30-point blowout of Willow Springs.
